Opera San José concludes its 41st season with the Northern California premiere of Héctor Armienta’s Zorro, directed by David Radamés Toro. Set in the early 1800s in El Pueblo de Los Ángeles, the opera tells the story of Diego de la Vega, played by tenor Xavier Prado, who becomes the masked hero Zorro to defend the oppressed under the corrupt rule of General Moncada, portrayed by baritone Eugene Brancoveanu. The production features vibrant musical influences of mariachi and flamenco, and showcases a talented cast, including soprano Maria Brea as Ana Maria Soza and mezzo-soprano Melisa Bonetti Luna as Carlota de Obragón.
