Marin Shakespeare Company’s most passionate endeavors unite this summer in the theater company’s 2016 production of “Othello,” when former California State Prison inmate, Dameion Brown, makes his stage debut in title role in William Shakespeare's classic tragedy. Brown, who participated and performed in Marin
Shakespeare Company’s 2015 “Shakespeare at Solano” theater arts program at California State Prison, Solano, studied, pursued, auditioned and won the role of Othello, one of Shakespeare’s most complicated and enthralling characters.
“For a long time, we have hoped that one of our former prison actors would perform on our main stage. It’s hard to imagine a better way to showcase our first formerly incarcerated actor than with the role of Othello,” said Marin Shakespeare Company’s Artistic Director, Robert Currier.
A complex and powerful tale of betrayal, jealousy and manipulation, "Othello" follows the tragic transformation of a brave and honorable Moorish general driven to rage and regret when betrayed by his opportunistic and vengeful friend and ensign. The production also stars Cassidy Brown* as Iago, Luisa Frasconi* as Desdemona, Elena Wright* as Emilia and Jeff Wiesen* as Cassio.
