Live At the Orinda's season finale will feature the U.S. concert debut of internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning singer Vladimir Kornéev. Growing up in Germany after his family fled Georgia when he was just 6 years old, Vladimir began studying piano, voice and acting, eventually winning a multitude of singing awards, leading to concerts,TV appearances and recordings. His 7 solo albums include "Youkali - Vladimir Kornéev Sings Kurt Weill", "Vladimir Kornéev Sings Edith Piaf - Live In Berlin" and "Romance" with the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra.
Singing in French, English, German and Russian, Vladimir has performed extensively on stage throughout Europe and Canada with his own sold-out concerts, as well as a guest of symphonic orchestras and on numerous TV shows. In addition to his singing career, Vladimir Kornéev is a renowned film and television actor. In 2022 he gained international recognition with the Netflix series, The Empress, portraying the Russian Tzar Alexander Romanov II. Vladimir Kornéev is currently the face of Hennessy's XO Cognac global campaign and stars in their Life Is the Greatest Odyssey commercial (directed by Academy Award winning director of La La Land, Damien Chazelle).
Vladimir will be honoring Kurt Weill's life work with his new show, Youkali - Vladimir Kornéev Sings Kurt Weill named after Weill's play, written in exile, about a utopian country in which everyone can feel respected, loved and free.
Sometimes it seems as if you can’t think of Kurt Weill without Bertolt Brecht. But the oeuvre of the Jewish composer, who was born in Dessau, Germany matured into an artist in 1920s Berlin and fled from the Nazis, is far more extensive than The Threepenny Opera and One Touch of Venus. In America, where Weill lived from 1935 until his death in 1950, he wrote musicals, among other things, and enjoyed great success on Broadway and in Hollywood.
With an incomparable voice, charm and passion, Vladimir Kornéev brings the universal language of Kurt Weill’s music into the here and now and celebrates longing and emotion as only the Georgian-born singer and actor can. Kornéev will be accompanied by Stéphane Aubin on the piano.
"One of the greatest voices of Europe." - La Relève
"German complexity, French nonchalance, Russian depth and an unbelievably nuanced voice over several octaves." - Berliner Morgenpost
