Sonoma State University Departments of Music and Theatre Arts & Dance
presents the world premiere of "Heroines"

Music Direction by Lynne Morrow
Adaptation & Stage Direction by Jane Erwin Hammett

Created by Sonoma State University instructors Lynne Morrow and Jane Erwin Hammett, "Heroines" is a world premiere combining the most soaring, inspiring and hilarious numbers from the history of operetta with a new story about women fighting for independence. This dynamic, operetta revue draws from classic opera including "The Merry Widow," "The Threepenny Opera" and operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan as it harkens back to an explosive period in musical history at the turn of the 20th century when women weren’t just fighting for the vote - they wanted to be bad.

Set with a Steampunk aesthetic in the Victorian - Edwardian time period, feisty female characters from different times and places converge and find themselves wrestling with their lives and shackles of society. Beholden to old-fashioned ideas of their place in society, they rebel and find a pioneering way to break free.
