It was a completely unprecedented event at San Francisco's Curran Theatre, just over a month ago, when students from the Oakland School for the Arts performed in the world premiere amateur youth production of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Glenn Slater and Julian Fellowes' new Broadway smash, School of Rock.

Never before had a new Broadway musical, just months after the opening of its original production, made performance rights available to schools and youth theatres across the U.S. and Canada. But the show's legendary composer says such a move is totally within the spirit of his new show.

"What initially drew me to School of Rock is that it is entirely about empowering students with music," Andrew Lloyd Webber commented before the premiere. "This initiative is a natural extension of that message, and as such is near and dear to my heart."

A new video, released by licensing company Rodgers & Hammerstein, shows the kids blowing the roof off the place.

SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL continues its run on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway). Star Alex Brightman and the Broadway cast sent an encouraging video to welcome the OSA students to the band and call upon the "Gods of Rock" to guide them with their West Coast production. In turn, OSA recorded their own fun response. Check out the videos below!

SCHOOL OF ROCK - THE MUSICAL opened on Broadway to rave reviews on Sunday, December 6, 2015. Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock - THE MUSICAL features music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes and direction by Laurence Connor.
