"Sometimes, when the world faces so many challenges," said Co-Executive Directors Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas, "we need time to decompress, to relax and enjoy ourselves. An evening of delightful, funny, romantic escapism can be a great tonic for stress and worry. DAMES AT SEA is the perfect musical for audiences of all ages to enjoy, whether it's the incredible tap-dancing, the light-hearted comedy, the bright and peppy score, or the loving homage to musicals of the 1920s and '30s, and we couldn't have asked for a better cast and team to bring this show to the Gateway stage. We know our audiences will leave smiling, humming, and dancing after they see DAMES AT SEA."
"I am honored to be a part of this tap-happy production," added DAMES AT SEA Director/Choreographer Nicole Helfer. "I'm a longtime lover of the classic Broadway musicals, and I'm excited to work with such a talented team and cast. Filled with iconic songs and dynamic tap breaks, this show is a classic tale of following your dreams and trusting your heart, but it's also a hilarious parody about show business and putting on a Broadway show. The small but mighty cast of six is packed with some of the most talented actors in the Bay Area. I'm sure this wonderful, nostalgic piece will provide an evening's entertainment and a delightful reminder of the joy classic musical theatre can bring."
It's 42ND STREET meets ANYTHING GOES meets Busby Berkeley in Hollywood in DAMES AT SEA, the gem of a show which opened Off-Broadway in 1968 and helped launch the career of Bernadette Peters. Sweet, innocent Ruby arrives in New York with big dreams and lands in the chorus of a new show - but the theatre is about to be torn down! Can sailor-turned-songwriter Dick find a new venue for the show while juggling temperamental diva Mona, frazzled producer Hennesy and starry-eyed ingénue Ruby? Full of vim, verve, and tap-dancing, DAMES AT SEA will charm its way into your heart.
DAMES AT SEA runs two hours, including one intermission.
