Thrillpeddlers is proud to announce Creepshow Camps, Summer 2016. Running June 13 - August 12, 2016 (in 2-week Sessions) at The Hypnodrome in San Francisco. Young devotees of Horror, Sci-Fi and Suspense have a summer camp to call their own!
Summer is always a favorite time of year at The Hypnodrome because we open our doors to young devotees of horror, sci-fi and suspense. This is the 10th year offering this "one-of-a-kind" performing arts program.
In each of the two-week sessions of Creepshow Camps, performers ages 8 - 15 study and participate in workshops led by our dedicated staff of teaching artists as they engage participants, hands-on, in activities that teach and reinforce fundamental skills in monster make-up, special effects, sleight of hand, stage combat and acting.
At our theatre venue, campers screen classic horror movies and prepare stage plays culminating in farewell performances featuring horrific one-acts, ghoulish demonstrations, and even a macabre musical production number given for family and friends at the end of every Creepshow Camp session. Each Camp session enrolls approximately 16 campers ensuring that individual attention is given to each participant.
Enroll the little monster in your life now!

CAMP STAFF:
Every professional and dedicated staff member brings with them vast expertise, insight and exuberance for creating on-stage thrills and chills. Each two-week session is led by the Creepshow Camps' director Russell Blackwood, and guest artists from Thrillpeddlers company - including:
Russell Blackwood (Program Director) launched the first Creepshow Camp in 2006. He has designed and implemented arts education programs for the Lake Tahoe, Heart of America, and California Shakespeare Festivals, as well as New Pickle Circus and University of San Francisco. He is the creator of the popular Bay Area Shakespeare Camps, which he began in 1993, and now serve young people throughout the region. He founded Thrillpeddlers, a San Francisco-based theatre company dedicated to Grand Guignol horror theatre and Theatre of the Ridiculous, and is the producer of The Hypnodrome, the company's year-round performance venue. He has produced and/or directed for the LA, SF and the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festivals, Berkeley Opera, SF Conservatory of Music, Theatre Rhinoceros, Shotgun Players, and The Lamplighters. His productions have played in South Africa, Taiwan, London and throughout the USA from NYC to Alaska. He is a graduate of Boston University's School for the Arts BFA Acting program.
Leigh Crow (Instructor, Production Designer, Director) has been a fan of classic horror and sci fi for longer than she can remember. After moving to SF in the '90s she began her performance art career, touring internationally as Drag King Elvis Herselvis as well as appearing in local underground theater. Currently she works with the Berkeley Playhouse kids and teen productions designing and building props and sets. Summers find her at The Hypnodrome not only returning for a 3rd year as a Creepshow Camp counselor but reprising her role from 2000s production of Club Inferno, a rock musical inspired by "Dante's Inferno" opening June 11, 2015. Her free time is occupied with singing in The Whoa Nellies, a bubblegum revival band and "Velvetta" American process country.
Andy Wenger (Playwright, Director) is a director/writer/performer and a part-time teacher at Gateway High, one of CA's premier charter schools. He has written and directed three original shows: The Wrong Dick, R.I.F., and The Safe Way. He co-wrote and performed DeathWrite with Damien Chacona for Shocktoberfest 15: The Bloody Debutante and was a contributing playwright for Jewels of Paris, Thrillpeddlers most recent production. This is Andy's 3rd summer writing and directing at Creepshow Camp. He lives in SF's Mission District with an obnoxious cat named Frankenstein.
Jack Goldfield-Askew (Stage Manager, Lighting Designer) has been involved with Creepshow Camp for 5 previous summers, including several as a camper. His work with special effects make-up, learned at camp, led to his increased interest in film, and subsequently his acceptance into Ruth Asawa School for the Arts Digital Media department. Jack has worked backstage /created props for several local theatre companies including Back It Up Productions and Playground.
Thrillpeddlers (www.thrillpeddlers.com) have been performing their unique brand of horror and fetish theatre in San Francisco since 1991. Under the direction of Russell Blackwood, Thrillpeddlers are continuously engaged in translating, adapting and producing classic plays from the infamous repertoire of Le Théâtre du Grand Guignol and producing other works inspired by the Grand Guignol. The company's SOMA performance venue, The Hypnodrome, is tailor-made for the specific needs of horror theatre, "lights-out" spook show spectacle, multi-act bills, and arts education programs for young people. Thrillpeddlers produced the wildly successful, critically-acclaimed 22 month run of the musical PEARLS OVER SHANGHAI and for 15 years have celebrated horror theatre with their annual offering SHOCKTOBERFEST.
