The 5th Rough Reading of the season will be Bastiano or The Transfiguration of Raffi by Carey Perloff, directed by Tony Taccone.Monday, February 11 at 7:30 PM, Roble Hall, Stanford University, Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00PM, Theater of Yugen (SF)

Transcending time and space, Bastiano or the Transfiguration of Raffi tells the origin story of two 500 year old Biblical paintings through the eyes of three young American art students studying in Italy who are competing for a life-altering prize to be awarded to the best artistic response to those paintings. Artistic Director Emerita of the American Conservatory Theater, is a writer, director, producer and educator. Also a playwright, Perloff has created the movement-theater pieces TOSCA CAFE and FATHERVILLE, written numerous award-winning plays including HIGHER, LUMINESCENCE DATING and KINSHIP (first produced in Paris, starring Isabelle Adjani), and has a deep love of new plays.

Upcoming work includes the premiere of her play THE FIT at SF Playhouse in June 2019, directed by Bill English. BASTIANO OR THE TRANSFIGURATION OF RAFFI was written on a Fellowship at the Bogliasco Foundation in the fall of 2018. About the Rough Readings Series

The #RoughReadings Series is a monthly series of new works by rising national playwrights. It is in its 12th year thanks to the National Center for New Plays at Stanford University. Come join us to listen to a new work in development, meet the writer, and participate in the creative effort of bringing contemporary theater to life.
