A one-night event, TheatreFIRST invites you to view a developmental process, with, JIMMY: ACCORDING TO ME..., a narrative of famed novelist, essayist and social commentator James Baldwin, as written and performed by Carl Lumbly, and directed by Delroy Lindo. This work-in-progress takes place in a state of existence between death and rebirth; as Baldwin chronicles seminal events from his life.
From stage to screen, Carl Lumbly is an actor respected for his steadfast talent, versatility and class. His prolific career includes over 50 credits in television, film and the theatre that includes CIA agent Marcus Dixon for five seasons on ABC's hit drama series, Alias, and currently as M'yrnn J'onzz on CW's Supergirl.
Delroy Lindo, currently starring as Adrian Boseman on CBS' The Good Fight, has had a storied career as an actor and director on film, television and stage. Film credits include The Cider House Rules, Get Shorty, Clockers, Ransom (NAACP Image Award nomination), and Malcolm X (NAACP Image Award nomination.) On Broadway, Lindo appeared as Herald Loomis in Joe Turner's Come and Gone (Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations), and Master Harold and the Boys (Broadway & National Tour).
TheatreFIRST, a process focused art organization dedicated to bringing professional resources to historically de-centered storytellers, has teamed up with these two international stars as it continues in its exploration of new models of development. The evening, a benefit for the work, is another opportunity to support the development of pieces such as this, and will include a wine and appetizer reception, an introduction to the work by Delroy Lindo, a multi-media contextualization, excerpts from the work performed by Carl Lumbly, a question and answer session with the artists, and an afterparty with all involved.
ONE NIGHT ONLY: July 6th at 7:30pm. Live Oak Theater, Berkeley.
