Producer Jo Schuman Silver, The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon - the world's longest running musical revue - are proud to announce the 15th anniversary of the Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts" program. Created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, the "Scholarship for the Arts" program has grown into an annual event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high school seniors.
"I am so proud to keep the "Scholarship for the Arts" tradition going for 15 years now!" said Schuman Silver. "It was my goal to preserve
Steve Silver's passion for arts and education through this program that encourages and inspires young artists to pursue their dreams."
Last year's program proved, once again, to be extremely successful, with Beach Blanket Babylon receiving a record number of submissions. Mari Kojima (Dance) from San Mateo High School in San Mateo, Sierra Stephens (Acting) from Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo and Cate Hayman (Voice) from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley each walked away with a check towards their college education.
High school seniors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area are asked to submit a completed entry form along with a three-minute performance in one of three categories: singing, acting or dancing. Nine finalists - three from each category - will be selected by a panel of performing arts professionals and notified on Monday, May 8, 2017. The finalists will perform their three-minute piece live at Club Fugazi (home of Beach Blanket Babylon) on Monday, June 5, 2017 in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an invited audience made up of their family and friends. One winner from each category will be presented with a $15,000 check from The
Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon toward their higher education. The "Scholarship for the Arts" is based entirely on talent; grades and financial needs are not factors. All entries must be postmarked or uploaded by11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, April 28, 2017.
