The Marsh Berkeley announces due to popular demand, Lisa Rothman's new solo show DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY will extend with performances through January 23. Ever since having a second baby, Lisa and Kevin have been fighting over sippy cups, fruit salad, and impenetrable origami instructions. Now Kevin is storming around the emergency pet clinic ranting about vet bills and wondering how a dog can possibly overdose on antibiotics. Lisa doesn't know what to do - but does know this is the worst date night ever. Directed by David Ford, DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY was originally scheduled to run through December 5, but will now extend through January 23 with performances Saturdays at 5pm at The Marsh Berkeley, 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley. For tickets ($20-$35 sliding scale; $55-$100 reserved seating), the public may visit www.themarsh.org or call 415-282-3055 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY opened at The Marsh Berkeley in October and was lauded by audiences and critics alike. Stark Insider called the show "Clever! Rothman's considerable strengths, as a writer and performer, make this worth taking in. Date Night at Pet Emergency makes for a funny, funny time out," and Bay Area Reporter declared, "Rothman is a natural-born storyteller!"
With sharp writing and a wicked sense of humor, Lisa struggles to prove to herself and everyone else that more love is better. Along the way, she renders children, dogs, ants, and a toy train track with well-honed physicality. She discovers that rescuing a dog combines the worst aspects of internet dating and buying a house, that mother infant yoga should be outlawed because newborns don't feel secure in mother-infant warrior pose, and that ants do need to be sedated in the refrigerator before moving them to the ant farm. DATE NIGHT AT PET EMERGENCY was originally presented as a "Marsh Rising" performance in March and will now extend its full run at The Marsh Berkeley.
In addition to raising children, Rothman's other adventures have included producing KPFA's Morning Show when Andrea Lewis and Philip Maldari were the co-hosts, hosting a nationally distributed radio show at a food truck park, and most recently, helping construction workers make better presentations.
David Ford is a director, collaborator, and Goldie Award-winning playwright who has worked on countless solo shows over his 25-year career in the business. Frequently working on projects at The Marsh, Ford has collaborated with many other Bay Area favorites including Charlie Varon, Marilyn Pittman, Geoff Hoyle, and Cherry Terror. He also directed Wayne Harris' A MOTHER'S MILK: A BLUES RIFF IN THREE ACTS currently at The Marsh Berkeley.
