THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO Begins Fourth Year of Merola Opera Program's Film Screenings

The Merola Opera Program and the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch present a free screening of Mozart's opera The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) at the next Merola Goes to the Movies, on Sunday, September 11th, 1:00 pm, in the Koret Auditorium of the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch (100 Larkin Street). Admission is free.

The film is preceded by a short talk by a Merola representative, who will give an insider's look at the opera.

A brilliant cast headlined by Merola Opera Program 1996 alumna Anna Netrebko, Mozart's classic explores the rich complexities in Beaumarchais's sublime story of romantic intrigue and class prejudice.

This 2007 Wiener Opera Philharmoniker production stars Anna Netrebko, Ildebrando D'arcangelo, Bo Skovhus, and Dorothea Röschmann. Performed in Italian with English subtitles.

Admission is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors for seating open at 12:30 pm.

Merola Goes to the Movies films are generously provided by Unitel Classica, one of the world's leading producers and distributors of classical music for audiovisual media.

The Merola Opera Program and the San Francisco Public Library invite you to see legendary operas captured on film. Five times a year, Merola Goes to the Movies brings opera master works to the silver screen for free. All film screenings take place at the San Francisco Public Library Main Branch in the beautiful Koret Auditorium.

For 58 years, the Merola Opera Program has been regarded as the foremost opera training program for aspiring singers, coaches and stage directors. As the cornerstone of San Francisco Opera's training and performance programs for promising young artists, Merola has served as a proving ground for hundreds of artists, including Anna Netrebko, Patricia Racette, Thomas Hampson, Deborah Voigt, Joyce DiDonato, Susan Graham, Rolando Villazón, Carol Vaness, and Dolora Zajick among many others.
