The Aurora Theatre Company celebrates Harold Pinter, winner of last year's Noble Prize for Literature, by producing one of his most highly regarded and well-known plays, The Birthday Party beginning January 26, opening February 1 with performances through March 4. Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross directs.
"The Birthday Party, Pinter's first full-length play, is a modern classic that revels in the terrors of everyday life," states press notes, "Two mysterious men enter into the cozy seaside rooming house of Meg and Petey in search of their boarder, Stanley, a down-on-his-luck concert pianist. What is supposed to be a birthday celebration for Stanley quickly turns into a dark nightmare after a few glasses of whiskey and a game of blindman's bluff. Chock full of Pinter's trademark mystery, wit, and menace, The Birthday Party abounds in ambiguity and mystery, and reveals Pinter to have been a man of strong political convictions from the very dawn of his career."
