THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR Opens at Bus Barn Stage Company, 4/13

When the locals in a small Russian hamlet learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the whole village spiraling into a tizzy of panic and greed.  Opening April 12 and playing through May 5 on the Los Altos stage, this adaption by Jeffrey Hatcher of Nikolai Gogol's classic, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR exposes the corruption of a Russian provincial town.

Ivan Alexandreyevich Hlestakov, a lowly spendthrift civil servant, has arrived in the Russian backwater town with his seedy servant Osip just as the townspeople learn that an incognito government inspector has been sent by the Tsar to make an unexpected inspection. Mistaking the wastrel Hlestakov as the inspector, the corrupt officials offer lavish bribes of all kinds. Hlestakov, a smidgen more intelligent and cutthroat than the rest, catches on and stirs the pot, resulting in madcap confusion.

THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR is directed by Artistic Director Barbara J. Cannon and features a stellar cast of actors including Kevin Hsieh, Michael Sally, Ruth E. Stein, Megan Putnam, Ken Boswell, Christopher J. Carter, George S. Gemette, Ronald Feichtmeir, Nicolae Muntean, Vic Prosak, Joseph O'Loughlin, Deb Anderson, and Ever Leon.

Performances are held at the Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Avenue in Los Altos
