Producer Jo Schuman Silver, The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon-the world's longest-running musical revue-are proud to announce the 16th annual Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts" program. Created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, the "Scholarship for the Arts" program has grown into an annual event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high school seniors.
"Encouraging young artists to follow their dreams and express their creativity was very important to
Steve Silver," said Schuman Silver. "We are proud to be able to honor his legacy with this outstanding program."
Last year's program proved, once again, to be extremely successful, with Beach Blanket Babylon receiving a record number of submissions. Yongfeng Lim (Dance) from Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, Peter Stielstra (Acting) from Lowell High School in San Francisco, and Emilie Kealani Suarez (Voice) from Independence High School in San Francisco, each walked away with $15,000 towards their college education.
High school seniors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area are asked to submit a completed entry form along with a three-minute performance in one of three categories: singing, acting or dancing. Nine finalists-three from each category-will be selected by a panel of performing arts professionals. The finalists will perform their three-minute performance live at Club Fugazi (home of Beach Blanket Babylon) on Monday, June 4, 2018 in front of a panel of celebrity judges and an invited audience made up of their family and friends. One winner from each category will be presented with a $15,000 check from The
Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon toward their higher education. The "Scholarship for the Arts" is based entirely on talent; grades and financial needs are not factors. All entries must be postmarked or uploaded by 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, April 27, 2018. Finalists will be notified Monday, May 7, 2018.
