The national tour of Spring Awakening, winner of eight 2007 Tony Awards including Best Musical, will launch at San Francisco's Curran Theatre, tonight September 4th where it will play until October 12th. The tour just finished up at pre-engagement in San Diego at the Balboa Theatre. Spring Awakening will be the fifth production of San Francisco's 2007-2008 Best of Broadway season, brought to you by Citibank, under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays.
"Based on the infamous 1891 Frank Wedekind play and featuring an original score by Grammy-nominated recording star Duncan Sheik and Steve Sater, Spring Awakening is the story of kids trying to break loose and adults trying to hold on; it is the story of young people everywhere. This coming of age tale is primarily seen through the eyes of three teenagers: the handsome rebel, the innocent woman-child, and the misunderstood loner," states press notes.
Spring Awakening is the winner of eight 2007 Tony Awards; Best Musical, Best Director, Best Book of a Musical, Best Score, Best Orchestrations, Best Lighting Design, Best Choreography and Best Featured Actor in a Musical, John Gallagher Jr.
This new musical features book and lyrics written by Steven Sater, music by Duncan Sheik, directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Bill T. Jones. The production features costumes by Susan Hilferty, set design by Christine Jones, lighting by Kevin Adams and sound by Brian Ronan.
