American Musical Theatre of San Jose will sizzle and shake with Smokey Joe's Café, the longest running musical revue in Broadway history. This rollicking show recreates 40 chart-topping hits from the legendary creative team of Jerry Leiber (lyrics) and Mike Stoller (music). Opens April 10 with performances through April 22.
"Smokey Joe's Café takes audiences back to a time of hot-rods and drive-ins, cruising down the main drag and blasting favorites from the golden age of rock 'n' roll," states press notes, "This raucous evening of musical theater features a panoply of Leiber and Stoller hit songs including 'Searchin',' 'Kansas City,' 'Fools Fall in Love,' 'Poison Ivy,' 'On Broadway,' 'Yakety Yak,' 'Charlie Brown,' 'Hound Dog,' 'There Goes My Baby,' 'Love Potion #9,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' 'Spanish Harlem,' 'Stand By Me' and many more."
AMTSJ has assembled a stellar cast of nine for this production, including Delious Kennedy, Dana Dawson, Denise Summerfeld, Gayle Turner, Gayle Holsman, Leonard Sullivan, James Monroe Iglehart, Jeff Leibow and Erwin G. Urbi. Directed by Bill Castellino, choreographed by Josh Bergasse and musical direction by David Nehls.
Smokey Joe's Café opens April 10 with performances through April 22. Show times are Tuesdays – Fridays at 8PM; Saturdays at 2 & 8PM; and Sundays at 1 & 6:30PM.
