The National Endowment for the Arts has put the spotlight on Sierra Repertory Theatre. One of the few rural arts organizations to receive such national attention from the NEA, SRT was featured on the organization's online blog last month, press notes state.

"It's kind of exciting for SRT to be featured on the NEA blog," said SRT Managing Director Sara Jones. "I always love it when we can bring a little extra attention to Tuolumne County!"

The blog post describes SRT as representing "that type of dream big, work hard, all-American story that we all relish." It also gives a basic history of SRT and includes Jones' thoughts on SRT's mission and community.

Sierra Rep is currently a week into performances of its production of the classic musical GYPSY.

GYPSY

Music by Jule Styne; Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by Arthur Laurents

March 3-April 22 – East Sonora

The exciting era of vaudeville and burlesque in the '20s and '30s come alive in this classic musical fable centering on the early life of entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee. A moving theatrical experience centered on the thorny, but ultimately redemptive relationship between a mother and daughter, the score is jam-packed with iconic songs like "Let Me Entertain You," "Everything's Coming up Roses," and "Together Wherever We Go." Filled with humor, pathos and some of the most enduring characters ever to grace a stage, GYPSY is considered by many critics to be the greatest American musical ever written.
