Episode Synopses - STARDATE 1329.1: The Federation Starship USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain James T. Kirk, rescues a con man named Harry Mudd who is trafficking in mail-order brides and is damaged in the process. The 3 women, accompanying Mudd, have such an unusual effect on the male crew members, distracting them from their duties, that even McCoy and Scotty are charmed. Mudd also proves to be a smuggler and counterfeiter. In addition, the women's beauty is artificial as well, as he has been giving the bevy of beautiful babes the illegal "Venus drug", to make them more erotic and alluring. When the starship Enterprise stops at the mining planet Rigel 12 for replacement power crystals, Mudd covertly offers the women to the miners in exchange for his own freedom. Captain Kirk is compelled to allow the deal to proceed because his ship's orbit will decay without the crystals. The miners discover the deception but decide that wives who can cook & sew will make more suitable companions than stunningly beautiful sexpots anyway. Captain Kirk takes Mudd back for trial.
The Star Trek TV series was produced 1966-67 by Desilu Productions, and by Paramount Television 1968-69. Star Trek aired on NBC from Sept. 8, 1966 to June 3, 1969. Star Trek?' s Nielsen ratings while on NBC were low, and the network canceled it after three seasons and 79 episodes. Nevertheless, the show had a major influence on popular culture and it became a cult classic in broadcast syndication during the 1970s. The show eventually spawned a franchise, consisting of 5 additional TV series, 12 films, numerous books, games, toys, and is now considered one of the most popular science fiction TV shows of all time.
