Written by Andrew Bergman, one of Hollywood's top comedy screenwriters (Blazing Saddles, Soapdish, The Freshman), Social Security was a 1986 Broadway hit under the direction of Mike Nichols and starring Marlo Thomas, Joanna Gleason, and a then-unknown Olympia Dukakis.
Trendy Manhattan art gallery owners Trudy and David Kahn have their life turned upside-down when Trudy's sister deposits their eccentric mother Sophie on the couple's doorstep while she and her husband Martin Head off to rescue their sexually precocious college student daughter from a ménage a trios. When wise cracking Sophie meets up with legendary French painter Maurice Koenig, she (and the rest of the family) discovers that it's never too late to find love.
Hillbarn Theatre's Social Security cast features Belmont residents Bill Davidovich as David Kahn and Bobbi Fagone as Trudy Heyman. Mary Moore from Burlingame returns to the Hillbarn stage as Barbara Kahn. Michael Sally, an Oakland resident also returns to the Hillbarn stage as Martin Heyman. Paul G. Smith, from Moss Beach, will appear as Maurice Koenig. Welcoming to the Hillbarn stage is actor's union actress Corinne Kason as Sophie Greengrass.
Social Security runs January 26 – February 12 at Hillbarn Theatre in Foster City. Performances are Thursday – Saturday 8 PM and Sundays 2 PM.
