The final extensions of Safiya Martinez's acclaimed solo show, SO YOU CAN HEAR ME, and Kurt Bodden's hilarious satire of the self help industry, STEVE SEABROOK: BETTER THAN YOU, are coming to a close at The Marsh San Francisco, Saturday, August 24. Tickets to both shows can be purchased at www.themarsh.org or by calling 415-282-3055between 1:00pm and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
SO YOU CAN HEAR ME, a hit that opened last May, is based on Martinez's experience when, as a twenty-three year old, she signed up to teach special education in the South Bronx public schools after only three weeks of formal training. This born and bred New Yorker who thought she could take anything the City had to throw at her found a sudden awakening at the hands of her tough students, who forced her to dig for more effective solutions. Performances continue on Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 5pm in the Mainstage Theater at The Marsh San Francisco through August 24.
Held over multiple times since last February, STEVE SEABROOK: BETTER THAN YOU takes audiences to a safe, nurturing place where they can examine why they're vaguely disappointing. Directed by Mark Kenward, Bodden's comically absurd one man show places the audience in the "personal-growth workshop" of Steve Seabrook, who offers earnestly illogical tips, encouraging the audience to enjoy procrastination while it lasts, and "live vicariously through yourself." The show continues playing Saturdays at 8:30pm in the upstairs Studio Theater at The Marsh San Francisco through August 24.
The Marsh San Francisco is located at 1062 Valencia Street, at 22nd St. Parking: New Mission Bartlett Garage, 21st St between Mission & Valencia. The nearest Bart Station is 24th & Mission. Tickets: $15-$35 sliding scale; $50 Reserved Seating. For tickets, visit www.themarsh.org or call 415-282-3055.
