A pseudo-violent comedy adventure of identity, fantasy and killing monsters! Sonoma State University Dept. of Theatre Arts & Dance presents "She Kills Monsters."
Paul Draper directs the comedy-adventure written by
Qui Nguyen, opening on March 5, 2014 on the campus of Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif. High school teacher Agnes comes to terms with the death of the teenage sister she never really knew when Agnes discovers Tilly's rich role-playing world of "Dungeons & Dragons" and her secret identity as Tilius the Paladin. Dubbed with her own gamer handle - Agnes the Ass-hatted - and provided with only a "regular" sword, she follows the dynamic trio of Tilius, Lilith, and Kaliope in search of the "Lost Soul of Athens," confronts Orcus the Overlord of the Underworld, does battle with five-headed dragon Tiamat and finds her true self. Set in Athens, Ohio in 1995, Agnes' real-life quest to know her sister is paralleled in a "Dungeons & Dragons" adventure theatrically bringing Tilly's hidden high school life to life - and into the open. A high-octane comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 1990's pop culture,
Qui Nguyen's "She Kills Monsters" is a heart-pounding homage to the geek warrior in us all.
"Deceptively breezy and rather ingenious...'She Kills Monsters'...will slash and shapeshift its way into your heart," said the New York Times when "She Kills Monsters" premiered at the Flea Theatre in New York in 2011.
