SF Opera Lab pops up at the Uptown Nightclub in Oakland on March 23, 2017 with Hands-On Opera, an interactive night of operatic fun and mischief. This SF Opera Lab event, the first to be held outside of San Francisco, will be curated by stage director and current San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow Aria Umezawa and feature performances by Adler Fellows including sopranos Sarah Cambidge and Amina Edris; tenors Amitai Pati and Kyle van Schoonhoven; baritone Andrew G. Manea; bass-baritone Brad Walker; bass Anthony Reed; and pianists Jennifer Szeto and Ronny Michael Greenberg. Dancing will follow the performance with a live DJ.
The Uptown Nightclub is a popular bar and live music venue in Oakland's revitalized Uptown District. Located across from the historic Fox Theater on Telegraph Avenue, the Uptown regularly features diverse musical acts.
San Francisco Opera's SF Opera Lab pushes the boundaries of opera with intimate, eclectic and adventurous experiences. Launched in spring 2016, SF Opera Lab explores innovative programming that celebrates the power of the human voice theatrically in intimate spaces beyond the War Memorial Opera House. SF Opera Lab presents performances in the Company's Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera, and also pops-up in interesting venues around the Bay Area.
Season Two of SF Opera Lab at the Taube Atrium Theater opened with TEd Hearne's The Source (now through March 3, SOLD OUT) and continues with acclaimed soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci in Poulenc's La Voix humaine (March 11, 14, 17), the award-winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth (April 23, SOLD OUT) and an evening of music and song with members of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in ChamberWORKS (April 27).
