There are female forces at work at the Ross Valley Players Barn Theatre.
The 80-year old theater company is currently in rehearsals for its next presentation of "Top Girls," Caryl Churchill's groundbreaking and theatrically inventive work (featuring an all female cast with several actresses playing two to three characters) which explores what it takes and means to be a successful woman of power. Speaking of powerful women - the Ross Valley Players production is almost entirely represented by women including producer Lynn Gutstadt, director Cris Cassell and stage manager Maddy Boom, not to mention the cast of eight actresses.Set in 1980s London, at the Top Girls Employment Agency, the play tells the story of an ambitious career woman who has just been appointed head of the agency. Her success story moves between fantasy and realism, time and space, poverty and affluence as it reveals family secrets and sacrifice. The cast includes Loring Williams as Marlene; Michelle Darby as Isabella Bird/Joyce; Lina Makdisi as Lady Nijo/Win; Carolyn Power as Pope Joan/Louise; Susan Donnelly as Dull Gret/Mrs. Kidd; Theresa Miller as Patient Griselda/Angie; Chelsea Stone as Waitress/Kit/Shona; and Melissa Claire as Waitress/Jeanine/Nell.
