Jazz and Blues vocalist Pamela Rose and her all-star line up of musicians will be bringing their multimedia live theatrical concert to Rhythmix Cultural Works on Sat Sept 10, 2016. Wild Women of Song is an outstanding musical and narrative showpiece celebrating the lives, times and music of the often-invisible women songwriters of early American Songbook. Rose's band features Tammy Hall (piano), Ruth Davies (bass), Daria Johnson (drums) and Kristen Strom (sax).
Wild Women of Song is a captivating concert weaving vivid historical detail into a live performance. Jazz singer and storyteller Pamela Rose - backed by her swinging all-gal band - projects film and photo archives while singing, scatting and storytelling about the vibrant women who helped create the American Songbook.
The show features classics like "A Fine Romance" and "I'm in the Mood for Love" as well as rare nuggets like "Wild Women (Don't Get the Blues)."
Rose debuted the show in 2010, and has toured to sell out crowds in London, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and at performing arts centers across the US. Rose has been featured at SFJAZZ, the Monterey Jazz Festival, and has been interviewed on NPR and radio stations throughout the country.
Audiences everywhere have discovered that Rose is not only a remarkable singer but also a gifted storyteller with a compelling tale to tell. She recently compiled her narratives about women songwriters into an entertaining and informative book, "Wild Women of Song: Great Gal Composers of the Jazz Era". The volume also includes a companion CD with tracks from Rose's original Wild Women of Song recording. This book has augmented Rose's mission to re-introduce the presence of women to our cultural memory of the formation of American music.
