Ray Of Light Theatre Announces 2019 Season! ImageRay of Light Theatre, San Francisco's non-profit musical theatre company, today announced its 2019 season of musicals featuring the satirical thriller American Psycho, the awe-inspiring Caroline, or Change and a new interpretation of the annual Halloween favorite, The Rocky Horror Show. This season of politically and socially relevant musicals follows a critically-acclaimed 2018 season that included the all-female production of Jesus Christ Superstar and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

"We always aim to produce shows that Bay Area audiences won't be able to find anywhere else, and this season's lineup of musicals is uniquely Ray of Light," said Jason Hoover, artistic director. "American Psycho and Caroline, or Change take place during two distinct eras in American history, yet they both explore themes of identity and class that are still painfully relevant today. And with D'Arcy Drollinger returning to The Rocky Horror Show, we're so excited to bring a diverse and invigorating season of musicals to The Victoria Theatre stage this year."

American Psycho

Music and Lyrics by Duncan Sheik

Book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

May 17 through June 8

Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, American Psycho tells the story of Patrick Bateman, a young and handsome Wall Street banker with impeccable taste and unquenchable desires. Through an electric score we see Patrick and his elite group of friends spend their days in chic restaurants, exclusive clubs and designer labels. But at night, Patrick takes part in a darker indulgence, and his mask of sanity is starting to slip. This satire paints a pointed picture of the consumerism and misogynistic attitudes of the 80's corporate world, a theme still relevant more than 30 years later.

Caroline, or Change

Music by Jeanine Tesori

Book and Lyrics by Tony Kushner

September 13 through October 5

Set in Louisiana in 1963, the Tony-nominated Caroline, or Change is a riveting, fantastical and awe-inspiring musical that takes place during one of the most dramatic times in America's history. Featuring a score that blends blues, gospel and traditional Jewish melodies, Caroline.. provides a breathtaking medium for playwright Tony Kushner's (Angels in America) provocative and personal story. Caroline... follows the Gellman family, their African-American maid and her family as they all come to grips with a seemingly crippling deluge of political change, social change and pocket change.

The Rocky Horror Show

Book and Music by Richard O'Brien

October 23 through November 2

Now in its fifth year, Ray of Light's smash Halloween event returns in a newly imagined interpretation that brings new sets, new choreography and new direction -- but the same madness of Transexual Transylvania. With San Francisco icon D'Arcy Drollinger returning to the lab as Frank-N-Furter, Richard O'Brien's cult classic will have you shivering in antici... this Halloween.

Season subscriptions will go on sale the end of January at www.rayoflighttheatre.com. Individual tickets for American Psycho will go on sale in March, with Caroline, or Change and The Rocky Horror Show later this summer. American Psycho, Caroline, or Change and The Rocky Horror Show will all be performed at the historic Victoria Theatre in San Francisco's Mission district.
