The American Musical Theatre of San Jose presents one of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's most lavish musicals, The King and I, starring Grammy Award-winner, best-selling author, and Broadway star Debby Boone, along with Broadway star Francis Jue.
"
The King and I tells the story of Anna Leonowens (Boone) who arrived in Bangkok in 1862 with her son at the behest of King Mongkut (Jue) to teach his own children and wives English and culture," states press notes, "Some of the most memorable songs in the American songbook come from this legendary score, including 'Getting to Know You,' 'Shall We Dance,' and 'Hello Young Lovers.'
This AMTSJ produced show promises to thrill audiences with the grandeur of the royal palace and the emotional power of the unconventional relationship between Anna and the King."
The King and I opens Oct. 31 and runs through Nov. 12.
Show times are Tuesday – Friday at 8:00PM, Saturdays at 2 & 8:00PM, and Sundays at 1 & 6:30PM. The American Musical Theatre of San Jose is located at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts, 255 Almaden Blvd., San Jose.
