Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 56th season with The Mountaintop, Katori Hall's daring reimagining of a seminal event in American history, directed by CCCT Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn. The Mountaintop plays from April 15 through May 8- performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.
Winner of the 2010 of the Olivier Award for New Play and a 2011 Broadway hit starring Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett, The Mountaintop is a surrealistic fantasy about a chance encounter between Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a mysterious hotel maid. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, while a storm rages outside. When a stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to reevaluate the meaning of his life, confront his destiny, and come to terms with his unfinished legacy.
The cast of The Mountaintop includes Khary L. Moye as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Kimberly Ridgeway as the mysterious stranger, Camae. The production features set design by two-time TBA Award winner Kuo-Hao Lo? costume design by Lisa Danz, lighting design by Courtney Johnson, sound and projections design by Michael Kelly, and props design by Devon LaBelle. Stage manager for The Mountaintop is Mackenzie Laurel Orvis, with dramaturgy by Dustin Trabert.
