He may be best-known for playing Jerry Robinson, the eccentric orthodontist on 1970s TV comedy, The Bob Newhart Show, but since then American actor, director, and writer, Peter Bonerz, has become an award-winning director, primarily of television sitcoms.
In 1978, he directed the handful of produced episodes of Apple Pie (ABC), a short-lived Rue McClanahan vehicle, and, in 1979, helmed the first season of Archie Bunker's Place (CBS). From 1981-83, Bonerz did double duty, directing the ABC series version of 9 to 5 and also playing Franklin Hart Jr. He directed several shows during the ‘80s, and then he moved on to Murphy Brown, winning a DGA Award for his efforts. In 1987, Bonerz directed the pilot for Good Morning, Miss Bliss, which evolved into the long-running NBC Saturday morning franchise, Saved By the Bell. He has also directed numerous sitcom episodes for series such as Friends, NewsRadio, Home Improvement, and ALF. For the past 12 years he's been teaching at the USC film school.
He joins Artistic Director and Producer of Teatro ZinZanni, Norman Langill, to co-direct the upcoming production, Sultry Summer Magic, which opens on May 7 and runs through August 30 in the elegant spiegeltent on Pier 29.TEATRO ZINZANNI
