Pear Theatre's new Pear Flambé Cabaret series continues with the D-Cup Divas and their American Cancer Society fundraiser show, "Every Heart, A Story" on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20. This lively collection of chanteuses have performed together in fundraisers in the South Bay, and individually as actors and singers. Tickets ($20 in advance or $25 at the door) can be purchased by visiting www.thepear.org/cabaret or calling(650) 254-1148.
The D-Cup Divas began as a group of Bay Area musical theatre performers, who forged friendships through various productions and continued to spend time together after each individual show closed. Over the years, and finding common ground on life aspects other than singing and theater - marriage, motherhood, teaching, caring for parents, baseball, and (for two of the Divas) surviving breast cancer - the group bonded tightly. When the opportunity arose five years ago to sing together and raise money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, the performance group was born. Since then, the D-Cup Divas have sold out performances and raised thousands of dollars. A recent performance received thunderous applause, laughter, tears, a standing ovation; and one patron's praise, "THIS is a Broadway quality show."
"Every Heart, A Story" will include performances by Bay Area favorites Mary Melnick (on 4/20 only), Molly Thornton,Karyn Rondeau (on 4/19 only), Karen Dehart, Barbara Reynolds, Leslie Lloyd, and Kereli Sengstack. They will be accompanied by piano (Bob Sunshine) and guitar (Leslie Lloyd and Scott Harline).
Audiences will enjoy songs ranging from pop to Broadway to country, and a variety of solos, duets, trios, and group numbers including "Dear Future Husband," "What You Don't Know About Women," "Landslide," "If You Knew My Story," "If I Were a Bell," "When Halley Came to Jackson," "Try/Beautiful" (a mash-up of Colbie Caillat and Carole King songs), and more. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Pear Flambé Cabaret is the newest addition to Pear Theatre's expanding programming, offering short engagements of diverse, local vocalists with minimal instrumental accompaniment throughout the season. This welcome addition of music at the Pear follows the well received production of "Oh, Coward!" and the wildly successful, sold-out "3D Cabaret." The Pear Flambé Cabaret series is being coordinated by Bay Area theatre icon Walter Mayes.
