Pittsburg Community Theatre takes you back to when WORLD War II was about to end, and Lt. Douglas Roberts (Michael Wilson), the cargo officer of a beleaguered ship in a backwater part of the South Pacific, wants just two things: a transfer to a destroyer in the thick of the action against the Japanese, and liberty for the 167 desperate men who have been kept aboard his ship for 14 straight months by the tyrannical Captain (Kevin Burns).

"Mister Roberts" also chronicles the restless crew members of the AK-601 (also known as the Reluctant) as they journey "from Tedium to Apathy and back again -- with an occasional side trip to Monotony" with the help of the mischievous Ensign Pulver (Avery Brooks) and the ever wise "Doc" (Tim Biglow).

"Mister Roberts" by Joshua Logan, is a dramatization of Thomas Heggen's best-selling novel, which took Broadway by storm in 1948 starring Henry Fonda in the title role. Presented Veteran's Weekend, November 11 thru 13 at the California Theatre in Pittsburg. A moment of honor is planned at the beginning of all shows for the men and women who have served and in rememberance the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Presentation of the colors and pledge is led by a local Boy Scout Troupe.

About Pittsburg Community Theatre
The Pittsburg Community Theatre began as a lively Adult Education class in 1973 lead by Betty Brown. Budget cuts threatened the small, but spirited company. Six founding members ensured it's survival by transforming it into a non-profit organization in 1979. Since then, PCT has enrichEd Pittsburg, Antioch, Brentwood, Concord and its surrounding communities with four shows per season and is active in local high and elementary schools to bring performing arts education to students. The all-volunteer company is able to continue bringing art and culture to East Contra Costa County through its shows and generous support from individuals and businesses.
