Young adults (age 15 - 21) are invited to audition for a performance of A Chorus Line, directed by Napa native Olivia Cowell, to be performed May 6 - 10 at the Napa Valley Opera House. Auditions will be held at the Opera House on Thursday, February 4th: 6:30 - 8:30pm and Friday, February 5th: 5:00 - 7:30pm.

Set on a bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition, A Chorus Line is a musical about seventeen Broadway dancers all auditioning for spots within a dance chorus. The show provides a glimpse into the dancers' pasts, and the events that shaped their lives leading up to the decision to become a dancer. The original Broadway production received critical acclaim winning nine Tony awards in 1976, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The book was written by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. Please note: A Chorus Line does include some mature content and language.

Audition Format:

19 main characters, 26 total roles (some dancing only).
The acting component of auditions will consist of a cold read from the script.
Please have a song prepared (no longer than 1 ½ minutes) in any style of music that best showcases your voice and range. It can be as straightforward as "Happy Birthday". An accompanist will be provided, but be prepared to sing a cappella.
Everyone will be asked to learn and perform movement/choreography at the auditions. More intricate choreography will be taught during callbacks.
