Celebrate Labor Day with the Napa Valley Opera House, Mardi Gras style. We are pleased to partner with Oxbow Public Market for the second annual Labor Day BBQ benefit, starting at 4:30pm. Enjoy live music by Bay Area bluegrass favorites Misner & Smith and feast on a bounty of food choices from the market vendors along with refreshing wine, beer and beverage selections. There are two options for seating: outdoor on the deck ($60), or indoor at the Oxbow Wine Merchant ($100, including a wine and cheese tasting). Following the BBQ, at 7:00pm, the Opera House features Mardi Gras Mambo, a spectacular performance by godfathers of New Orleans' funk, Dr. John & the Lower 911 with Aaron Neville & the Neville Brothers.

Dr. John is universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans. His very colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City, including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie Ford. The Neville Brothers, touted as "New Orleans' First Family of Funk," embody passionate funk, a feeling for blues-soaked deep pocket grooves that is the basis of their greatness and exalted place in our cultural history.

NAPA VALLEY OPERA HOUSE: The Napa Valley Opera House is located in the heart of downtown Napa. A national historic landmark originally constructed in 1879, NVOH celebrates its 130th anniversary this year. NVOH restored its intimate second-floor, 480-seat Margrit Biever Mondavi Theatre six years ago after 30 years of planning. During the 2009 Season, patrons experience an eclectic array of performing arts including theatre, dance, comedy, jazz, blues, world music, and family programming in a world-class setting.
