BRIDE FLIGHT
Occasioned by the true story of the Last Great Air Race from London to Christchurch, New Zealand in October 1953, BRIDE FLIGHT swoops in on five young women passengers setting off on their own personal adventures way Down Under.
The aircraft that won the handicap race carried a total of 40 Dutch immigrants to New Zealand. Most of them were young women on their way to join fiancés--men they'd never met--already settled in their new country. The international press gave the KLM flight a new name, "Bride Flight."
Directed by Ben Sombogaart, the director of the 2003 Academy Award nominated Best Foreign Language Film Twin Sisters, BRIDE FLIGHT is something that's recognizably New World: the last European immigration story.
