NTC Names Jase Smith Producing Director

NOVATO THEATER COMPANY (NTC) has announced the appointment of Jase Smith as Producing Director. Smith most recently served as artistic director of Firehouse Theatre in Richmond, VA. "NTC is emerging as a must see theater company in North Bay," remarked Board Vice-President Alison Peltz, "We are delivering productions and seasons that are strong and unique in Marin. With Jase Smith's amazing experience and enthusiasm, NTC will continue to grow, attract exceptional talent and deliver top notch theater to our community."

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the dynamic team at Novato Theater Company," said Smith. "The theater has an incredible 95 year history and is on the cusp of an exciting transformation from community to professionally oriented theater. I have been very impressed by the production value of recent shows and am excited to add my expertise in this area among others. As a new resident of Marin, I am looking forward to meeting the community and helping shape Marin as a theater destination in the Bay Area."

Smith is well known in the Virginia theater community for directing productions that have earned many accolades including 30 Richmond Theatre Critic's Circle Awards nominations and eight awards in various categories. Previous directing credits for Smith include RTCC Award for Best Musical nominees The Rocky Horror Show, RENT, Reefer Madness: The Musical, and The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Firehouse Theatre). Other professional directing credits include HAIR, The Wild Party, POP!, A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant (FT), Zanna Don't! and Christmas with the Crawfords (Richmond Triangle Players).

Smith holds a Master in Fine Arts in Theatre from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from The College of William and Mary. He is a recipient of Style Weekly Magazine's Top 40 Under 40 award in 2008 for his volunteer marketing work with The Conciliation Project, a social justice theater company, and his work as a director and educator. He is an associate member of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and a member of Theatre Communications Group.

Novato Theater Company is an award winning, professionally oriented, theater company that produces a 5-6 show season per year of exciting live theater.
