Bay Area residents have eight opportunities to feel the rejuvenating effects of Fountain of Youth, the refreshing new musical comedy by Bay Area librettist RC Staab and Boston composer Jeff Pflaumbaum. Fountain of Youth runs at the historic Hoover Theatre in San Jose in an expanded workshop production.
Two septuagenarians pack up their lives and leave their life-long home in Pennsylvania for retirement in sunny Florida . After a wrong turn and a fall into some bubbling waters, an unwitting sip from the Fountain of Youth magically makes them 25 and toned...with grown grandchildren, elderly neighbors and decades of shared history to reconcile. With interference from a love-struck sprite, the two unlikely heroes take a comic journey full of fresh temptations, unexpected opportunities and hard choices.
"Fans of theater have a unique opportunity to be the first to view this new musical in development," said producer/librettist RC Staab. "The songs are being presented for the first time to the public and want to know what people like, and don't like about the music and show. We're particularly interested in the views of mature adults regarding the journey of the two main characters as they look back to their old life and forward to a new one. Audiences can weigh in with their thoughts to help shape the show."
Fountain of Youth will be submitted to the National Alliance for Musical Theatre and the New York Music Theatre Festival for consideration for further development and production.
Performances are 8 pm, Thursday-Saturday, February 12-14, 2 pm, Sunday, February 15 and 8 pm, Thursday-Saturday, February 19-22 and 2 pm, Sunday, February 22 at the Hoover Theatre, 1635 Park Avenue, in the Rose Garden district of San Jose. The theater is conveniently located off of The Alameda and minutes from I-880 and US 101.
