American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) announced today that Mozilla and Tactical Technology Collective will bring "The Glass Room Experience" to The Strand Theater for one week only-September 26-October 3, 2017.

Presented in conjunction with A.C.T.'s Master of Fine Arts Program production of Clickshare, running September 28-30, 2017 at The Strand Theater, "The Glass Room Experience" is a collection of art objects that both disrupts how we think about technology and encourages people to make informed choices about their online lives. The concept moves beyond the familiar framings of technology and online life to raise broader questions of knowledge, power, and civil liberties.

Made possible by the generous support of producing sponsor Mozilla, Clickshare is a viciously funny satire of the Internet age. At a news website where any given story can go viral, competition among a team of twentysomethings is ferocious. In an electronic world of clickbait and fake news that unfolds at ever-increasing rates, one great article can make your career. But what happens when the story is too big to handle and the content is literally viral?

Tickets ($20) for Clickshare are available online at www.act-sf.org/mfashows or by calling the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228. The performance schedule for Clickshare is as follows: Thursday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, September 30 at 2 & 7:30 p.m.

Following the performance on Friday, September 29, the director and playwright of Clickshare will hold a conversation discussing the themes of the play. In addition, the cast of Clickshare will host a question and answer session with the audience following the performance on Saturday, September 30.

"By working together on this new American play about the dangers of fake news while concurrently running an interactive exhibit about online privacy, this unique partnership between A.C.T. and Mozilla activates The Strand Theater in fresh ways and showcases the exciting methods in which the performing arts and the tech sector are collaborating," says Associate Artistic Director Andy Donald. "We look forward to future partnerships with Mozilla and other like-minded technology companies to foster the next wave of innovation and artistic vision."

"We are excited to partner with A.C.T. to dare people to LOL at the hilarious new show Clickshare," said Jascha Kaykas-Wolff, Chief Marketing Officer of Mozilla. "In The Glass Room Experience, people will discover how their data is used behind the scenes and how to protect themselves online."

On Monday, October 2 from 12-1 p.m., A.C.T. and the Goethe-Institut will present The Plurality of Privacy Project in Five-Minute Plays (P3M5), a groundbreaking transatlantic theater project focused on the value of privacy. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Washington, theaters across the United States and Europe have commissioned playwrights to write five-minute plays exploring the central question, "What does privacy mean to you in the digital age?" The results will be presented in different formats by a network of theaters between January 2017 and June 2018. These performances, staged readings, and community forums will create an artistic and cultural dialogue centered around varying American and European understandings of privacy.

Written by Bay Area playwright Philip Kan Gotanda, A.C.T.'s five-minute play-titled #CAMPTULELAKE-follows a teenage girl trapped in a Japanese internment camp during the 1940s. She addresses the audience and talks about the disgusting, cramped, and very un-private conditions of her life in the camp; the neighbors, the lack of hygiene, the oily food. Then, something shifts and 1940 collides into today.

The lunchtime conversation will begin at 12 p.m. in The Strand Theater lobby. Immediately following, students from A.C.T.'s M.F.A. Program will present a staged reading of #CAMPTULELAKE and two other privacy plays. Tickets for P3M5 are free.
