The Marsh announced a Marsh Rising performance of Cherry Zonkowski's MY DAD'S PORN AND FRENCHKISSING THE DOG (AND OTHER CONFESSIONS OF A BORN-AGAIN PARTY GIRL). This show has it all: sex, marzipan pigs, boogers, tequila, monkeys, dildos, and grammar. And that's just a start. Cherry Zonkowski explores the burning question of how someone ends up with a name like Cherry anyway by taking us on a tour of the San Francisco sex and artist party scenes while reflecting back on her childhood, her failed marriage and the unique hell of grading papers.
The show plays on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 7:30 pm on The Marsh Main Stage, 1062 Valencia Street. For tickets, the public may call Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006 or visit www.themarsh.org.
Cherry Zonkowski is that rare breed, a Texobraskwegian: she was raised in equal parts Texas, Norway and Nebraska. She made her way out to California for college and never left. Her performance life began on the Popcorn Anti-theater Bus, where she called herself "a conceptual artist whose medium is a bus full of lunatics." She began performing a cabaret act under the name Cherry Terror with accordionist Aaron Seeman, also known as Duckmandu, and started appearing regularly at cabarets at the Fish Tank. There she began telling stories and found herself more and more drawn to solo performance. On the advice of a good friend, she began taking classes at The Marsh in 2006. Over the past three years, she has performed at Monday Night Marsh, the Shelton Theater's Solo House, Porchlight Storytellers Series, Tell It on Tuesday, Perverts Put Out, the Yerba Buena Theater Festival and Bawdy Storytelling.
