Marin Theatre Company announces the West Coast premiere of Happy Now? by British playwright Lucinda Coxon. Happy Now? received rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic in London and New York. Jasson Minadakis directs Happy Now? in the Boyer Theatre November 11 through December 5, 2010. Opening night is November 16.

Insightful and comedic, Happy Now? explores what happens when one modern woman "has it all." "Everyone I know works tremendously hard to be Kitty, to have the job that makes a difference in the world, to be a leader at that job, to have a happy family, to have a circle of friends. But when you are living 'the dream' how do you balance it all? How is it possible to be all these things and still be sane?" said MTC Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis. "Lucinda strikes deeply at the both the audiences' funny bones and nerve centers in this fabulous West Coast premiere."

In this scathingly funny new British play, Kitty is teetering on The Edge of burn-out. She dexterously juggles executive responsibilities, parenthood, a frustratingly detached and idealistic husband, needy divorced parents, and bickering friends until the temptation of infidelity throws everything into question. Coxon's stinging observations about the complexities of contemporary married life cut to the bone.

Happy Now? had its 2008 world premiere at the National Theatre in London, followed by its American premiere in a 2008 production at Yale Repertory Theatre, and an Off-Broadway production in 2009 at Primary Stages. Playwright Lucinda Coxon's plays have also been produced at The Royal Court Theatre, South Coast Rep, The Bush Theatre, and Soho Theatre. Also an accomplished screenwriter, Ms. Coxon recently completed a screen adaptation of David Ebershoff's novel, The Danish Girl. She is currently working on Vermeer, a new play commission at the National Theatre.

Jasson Minadakis directed MTC's hit productions of Equivocation by Bill Cain and The Seafarer by Conor McPherson, among many others. Later this season, he will direct the world premiere of Anton Chekhov's Seagull in a new version by Libby Appel, and Edward Albee's Tiny Alice.

The Happy Now? cast introduces MTC audiences to Rosemary Garrison as Kitty, Alex Moggridge as Johnny, and Mollie Stickney as Bea. Returning to MTC, Mark Anderson Phillips (The Last Schwartz) appears as Miles, Andrew Hurteau (Equivocation) as Michael, and Kevin Rolston (Sunlight) as Carl.
