SHN announced five Broadway musicals coming to the SHN Golden Gate Theatre that make up the 2019-2020 SHN Season.
Productions include rock superstar Sting starring in THE LAST SHIP; SUMMER: THE Donna Summer MUSICAL; and Lerner and Loewe's MY FAIR LADY, the latest classic musical to come to San Francisco from Lincoln Center Theater. They join the previously announced THE BAND'S VISIT, the winner of 10 Tony Awards® including Best Musical in 2018; and MEAN GIRLS, the hit musical by Tiny Fey based on the movie of the same name.
Two added special engagements include the nine-time Tony Award-winning "best musical of the century" THE BOOK OF MORMON, returning to SHN by popular demand, and THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL, the critically acclaimed and award-winning musical that The New York Times calls, "brilliant!"
All renewing and new members have immediate first access to purchase tickets to these two productions at the time they renew or purchase their new membership.

SUMMER: THE Donna Summer MUSICAL

Sting in THE LAST SHIP
SHN Golden Gate Theatre February 20 - March 22, 2020
THE LAST SHIP - the acclaimed new musical starring and with music and lyrics by internationally renowned musician Sting -This new production of THE LAST SHIP played an acclaimed 12-week U.K. and Ireland tour, followed by a sold-out run in Toronto. An original production first played on Broadway where it earned a Tony Award-nomination for Sting's score.
This personal, political and passionate new musical from multiple Grammy Award® winner Sting, is an epic account of a family, a community and a great act of defiance. With original music and lyrics by Sting, THE LAST SHIP also features a few of his best-loved songs, including "Island of Souls", "All This Time" and "When We Dance". The production, which was initially inspired by Sting's 1991 album The Soul Cages and his own childhood experiences, tells the story of a community amid the demise of the shipbuilding industry in Tyne and Wear, with the closure of the Swan Hunter shipyard and when the last ship sails.
Sting said in an earlier statement, "It was a joy to see the show's journey from the rehearsal room to the stage this year-first in my hometown of Newcastle then around the U.K. and Ireland. It was also extremely moving to witness the incredible audience response in each city we visited. It will be hugely exciting and a personal privilege for me to perform in the show in San Francisco and I'm looking forward to THE LAST SHIP continuing its journey there next year."
THE LAST SHIP has original music and lyrics by Sting, and is directed by Lorne Campbell, who also wrote a new book for the musical, original book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey, orchestrations by Rob Mathes, musical direction by Richard John, scenic design by 59 Productions, costume design by Molly Einchcomb, movement direction by Lucy Hind, lighting design by Matt Daw and sound design by Seb Frost. The Last Ship is produced by Karl Sydow and Kathryn Schenker.
