Luther Burbank Center for the Arts Announces Mavis Staples and The Magic of Adam Trent

Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC) announced two new performances in 2018, adding to the dynamic lineup of entertainment in Santa Rosa. Soul and gospel legend Mavis Staplesperforms at the Center on Friday, April 27 and, Broadway and TV star Adam Trent will present his signature brand of magic and illusion in the high-tech stage spectacle The Magic of Adam Trent on Thursday, June 28. Tickets for both performances go on sale on Friday, January 26 at 12 p.m. and are available by calling 707-546-3600, online at lutherburbankcenter.org, or at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts ticket office (50 Mark West Springs Road in Santa Rosa).

Mavis Staples is an alchemist of American music, and has continuously crossed genre lines like no musician since Ray Charles. Weaving herself into the very fabric of gospel, soul, folk, pop, R&B, blues, rock, and even hip hop over the better part of the last 60 years, the iconic singer has seen and sung through so many changes, always rising up to meet every road unwaveringly. At the beginning of her eighth decade of singing truth, Mavis Staples has delivered a new recording, "If All I Was Was Black," ten songs about America today, where the present is filled with ghosts of the past. This is her third collaboration with songwriter and producer Jeff Tweedy and marks the first time Tweedy has composed an entire album of original songs for Mavis' legendary voice and a nation she's uniquely poised to address.

Trent inaugurated the first two years of The Illusionists' record-breaking Broadway runs, which served as a launching pad for his own live show and tour. He now brings his entirely new show to Santa Rosa for one night only.
