Los Altos Stage Company begins 2018 with an adaptation of one of the 20th Century's most important pieces of literature, George Orwell's seminal work, 1984.
Winston Smith lives in a world perpetually at war with unseen forces, where personal electronic devices are used to spy on the populace and facts are manipulated or simply erased. George Orwell created this dystopian future in 1949, and although the date chosen for his work fall the 20th Century, it could easily be today. In a world where our leaders constantly cry out about "fake news" and champion "alternative facts", 1984 is timelier than ever before.
Los Altos Stage Company's production of 1984 is adapted by Michael Gene Sullivan, and directed by Jenny Hollingworth. Mr. Sullivan is a local playwright and actor most recently seen in TheatreWorks' holiday production, Around the World in 80 Days. Ms. Hollingworth makes her LASC directorial debut with 1984, having directed previously with both The Pear (A King's Legacy) and the Dragon Theatre (Betrayal). The production features Geoff Fiorito, Filip Hofman, Keith Larson, Brittney Mignano, Ben Ortega, and Anthony Stephens. Scenic Design by Ting-na Wang, Costume Design by Sharon Peng, Lighting Design by Sean Kramer, Sound Design by Gary Landis, and Prop Design by Dianne Vega.
1984 plays at the Bus Barn Theatre January 25th through February 18th. Performances run Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday-Saturday performances start at 8pm. Sunday performances start at 3pm. Please note there will be no performance on Sunday, February 4th.
Ticket prices range from $20 (student) to $38, including gala opening night tickets with an artists' reception following the performance. Tickets can be purchased online at www.losaltosstage.org or by calling the Box Office at 650-941-0551.
