If you've always wanted to learn more about theatre and/or playwriting, The Laguna Playhouse is offering two exciting adult theatre education classes beginning in January 2013. Participants may enroll by calling The Playhouse Box Office at 949-497-2787.
The first class, "Intro to Theatre: The Art and Business of Putting on a Show," offers a behind-the-scenes look at a production at The Laguna Playhouse. Participants will meet the people involved in the new musical Having It All and get an insider's look at what goes into creating a production, from page to stage. The course includes a backstage tour, conversations with Playhouse artists and staff, and a single ticket to the 8 pm performance of Having It All on March 28, 2013, followed by a StageTalk. Classes run February 19-March 28, 2013 (6 Tuesday afternoon classes, 1:30-3 pm, plus one Thursday evening performance) at The Laguna Playhouse. Tuition is $250; seniors, students, Players Club members and Laguna Beach residents receive a 25% discount.
The second course offering, "Intro to Playwriting," teaches participants to conceive, write, direct and present a short play in only seven weeks. The course culminates in a 10-minute play showcase for class participants, family and friends. "No experience is necessary," says instructor Lauren Simon, The Playhouse artistic associate and literary manager. "Just come with a willingness to have fun and try something new." Classes run January 15-March 5, 2013 from 10:30 am-noon at The Laguna Playhouse. The $250 tuition (25% discount for seniors, students, Players Club members and Laguna Beach residents) includes a single ticket to the first preview performance of Having It All on March 5, 2013.
