Little Women, the Broadway Musical based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott will play in PCPA's Marian Theatre February 16 - March 11 and the Solvang Festival Theater June 14 - July 1, 2012 under the Direction of Roger DeLaurier, with Choreography by Michael Jenkinson and Musical Direction by Callum Morris.

With book by Allan Knee, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, Little Women, the Broadway Musical, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. Jo longs to publish a novel. Meg longs for a fiancé. Beth longs for a piano. Amy longs to be admired. This timeless tale has been given new life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious song, dance, and a few tears. It celebrates personal discovery and coming of age in a time of challenge and transformation.

PCPA's Artistic Director Mark Booher said, "I'm very happy to be able to bring this lovely musical adaptation of a beloved literary classic to our audiences. It's grounded in Louisa May Alcott's tremendous writing and is brimming with the life of a new musical, which is so appropriate to the story of the March girls and their journey as a family through travail and triumph."

The cast features Karin Hendricks (Pride and Prejudice) as Jo March, Andrew Philpot (The 39 Steps) as Professor Bhaer, Sarah Girard (West Side Story) as Meg March, Elizabeth Stuart (A Christmas Carol) as Marmee March, and Michael Tremblay (Caroline, or Change) as Mr. Laurence.

The production team includes Scenic Designer DeAnne Kennedy, Costume Designer Judy Ryerson, Lighting Designer Jennifer 'Z' Zornow, Sound Designer Elisabeth Rebel, and Stage Manager Christine Collins.

Louisa May Alcott was a prolific writer producing more than two hundred stories, sketches, poems, and serials. According to the New York Public Library, Little Women was first published in two volumes (1868 and 1869). It was later published in one combined novel in 1880 and has never been out of print. Alcott followed up the popular story with two sequels, Little Men (1871) and Jo's Boys (1886). In the mid-1970s Alcott's anonymous thrillers were rediscovered by Madeleine B. Stern and published under the title, Behind a Mask. The works revealed a far more complex Alcott than previously presumed. Little Women has been adapted numerous times for TV, film, and the stage and an operatic version was recorded in 2000.
