Lip Service, a fundraiser/concert for the AIDS Lifecycle Team Go Big!, plays the Castro Theatre, one night only, on Saturday, April 25 at 8 PM.. Tickets are $29.50-$52.50 and can be purchased at www.cityboxoffice.com or by calling 415 392 4400.
Lip Service features singer and performer Lady Miss Kier, (aka Kierin Kirby). Deee-Lite, the band she founded, was a unique mix of house, techno and dance elements. Deee-Lite shot to stardom in 1990 with the release of the first album World Clique, and in particular with the smash hit "Groove is in the Heart." Kirby's sultry, feminine, and soulful voice backed up by the funky, catchy beats was truly revolutionary at the time. Her signature look was a zip-up cat suit, platform shoes and flipped hair-do. At the height of the band's success, her style had a major influence on fashion trends, showing up in a variety of retail venues.
Other performers include drag superstar Jackie Beat, who has been entertaining audiences for over ten years with her razor-sharp comedy and hysterical song parodies; Cazwell, New York-based rapper, songwriter and entertainer; and Peppermint, recently featured on MTV's The Real World Brooklyn and featured in videos with Debbie Harry. Hosts are local drag superstars, Heklina and Peaches Christ.
Lip Service is a fundraiser for Go Big! , a team of cyclists and supporters dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS through the AIDS Life Cycle event, the official cycling event of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation to be held May 31-June 6, 2009. Participants travel 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise awareness and funds. Lip Service is presented by Dominic Alario in association with The Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko.
