Kansas Church to Protest Hillsdale's LARAMIE PROJECT; Counter Protests Planned 3/27

Kansas-based fundamentalist Westboro Baptist Church members have announced their intent to picket Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, California in a religious protest against the school's production of The Laramie Project, the Tony-Award winning play about the aftermath of a brutal anti-gay murder in Laramie, Wyoming. Hillsdale High School students who have organized a "Lovefest" counter protest to show unity and tolerance for diversity within the community and to confront hate speech. Director Allison Gamlen chose this play to educate Hillsdale students about the need to accept people's differences.

Hillsdale Lovefest is scheduled to include a silent parade, signage with positive messaging, and speakers.

The protests will take place on Saturday, March 27 at Hissldale High School, 3115 Del Monte Street
San Mateo, CA 94403.  The counter protest is scheduled from 6:00pm - 7:00pm.  The show's curtain raises at 7:00pm. 

The Westboro Baptist Church also recently made news as the subject of a U.S. Supreme Court case over Church practice of protesting military funerals with inflammatory messages.
