In a Celebration of Harold Pinter, Julian Sands performs a warm and expertly crafted tribute to Nobel Laureate, Harold Pinter, directed by John Malkovich at the Royce Gallery, San Francisco, tonight, May 11 through May 19.
Pinter, best known to the world as a playwright, was also the author of a remarkable body of poems. In 2005 Harold Pinter asked Julian Sands to give voice to a selection of these at a benefit recital in London. In A Celebration of Harold Pinter, Sands shares this recital along with commentaries, prose, quotations and anecdotes drawn from his experience working with Pinter. Sands presents a rich and entertaining theatrical portrait of his fascinating subject. “In these spare but complex, works there is an extraordinary revelation of personal feeling – at once poignant, profound and often humorous.”
Harold Pinter is the author of over 30 stage plays and more than twenty-five filmed screenplays, as well as poems and essays. In 2005 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and continued to write and act until his death in 2008.
