Playwright/actor Joe Gulla's "FAGGY AT 50" will play The Theatre on San Pedro Square in San Jose, California this May 17th and 18th.

Written and performed by Gulla, "FAGGY AT 50" arrives fresh from its Sold Out run at New York City's legendary "Joe's Pub at The Public Theater". It is to be noted that "FAGGY AT 50" is also the recipient of the "United Solo Award" for "Best One-Man Show" and "Most Popular Show" for its performances on New York City's Theatre Row. Directed by Brian Rardin and produced by The Tabard Theatre Company, "FAGGY AT 50" is follow up to Gulla's multi-award-winning, "The Bronx Queen".

The West Coast premiere of "FAGGY AT 50" comes hot on the heels of Gulla's Sold Out, World Premiere of "GAY.PORN.MAFIA", his new comedy recently presented at Manhattan's New York Live Arts Theater.

"I'm just off of this fantastic success with my latest work, 'GAY.PORN.MAFIA', a collection of my award-winning, nationally (and internationally!)-produced short plays. I can't think of a better way to celebrate than popping off to Northern California for the West Coast Premiere of one of my most-loved and decorated works!"

"I'm incredibly proud of 'FAGGY AT 50'! We had a blast with it at 'Joe's Pub'. It was a huge honor to play and sell out that iconic space! Now I get to perform 'FAGGY' at another space that is immensely dear to my heart: San Jose, California's Theater on San Pedro Square. This is crazy in two ways!"

"First, I was an original cast member of The Theatre at San Pedro Square's production of 'Tony and Tina's Wedding' which opened 20 years ago this past October. Our cast recently had a huge reunion celebration! Second, I literally reference The Theatre at San Pedro Square and 'Tony and Tina's' in the monologue's opening moments. How cool! I mean, how 'META' can you get?! It's truly unbelievable! Talk about full-circle!"

What's "FAGGY AT 50" about?

"Ha! Well, it is done in the same Spalding Gray-esque style that I perform all of my monologues. I sit at a desk, sip water and tell my story."

"My through line in "FAGGY AT 50" is my battle with Playboy Magazine. They randomly canceled the Lifetime Subscription my Dad purchased for me when I was 14! I promise you, during the course of the evening, this gay man gets to the bottom of it! But, before I do that, the audience endures a scene where my Sicilian grandfather shoves me into a metal clothes hamper and throws me clear across the apartment he shared with my grandmother in the Bronx! I explain this best with: 'It wasn't physical abuse... it was the 70's!' Ha!"

What's next for Joe? "After San Jose, I'll return to New York City and begin promoting the next dates for 'GAY.PORN.MAFIA'. My director, Brian Rardin and I are excited to get that show back up and seen by the masses! Ticket demand has been wild... you cannot ask for a better 'problem' than that!"

"FAGGY AT 50" will be performed at The Theatre on San Pedro Square on Thursday and Friday, May 17th and 18th. Tickets are available at The Theatre on San Pedro Square's Box Office (29 North San Pedro Street, San Jose).
