Jil Aigrot, the critically-acclaimed singer and voice behind the role of Edith Piaf in last year's Academy Award/Golden Globe-winning film (Best Actress) "La Vie En Rose," will appear at The Rrazz Room, Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason, SF for one night only, Sunday, April 5 at 8 PM. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at www.therrazzroom.com or directly through www.ticketweb.com or 866 468 3399.

Aigrot's show is a tribute to the legendary chanteuse Edith Piaf. She provided the vocals to the film "La Vie En Rose" (Marion Cotillard lip-synched to Jil's vocals). A key component of the film is the music, and much praise has been lavished upon Aigrot's remarkable interpretations of Piaf's songs.

Although she had been performing in Europe for several decades, it was actually a fluke that brought Aigrot to become the voice of Edith Piaf in the film. She attended an author's signing by longtime Piaf friend and secretary Ginou Richter. When Aigrot was introduced to Richter, she told her that she was preparing a concert based on Piaf and Richter insisted that she sing a few songs right on the spot. Richter then introduced Aigrot to the writer and director for "La Vie En Rose." One week later she was cast as "the voice" of Piaf, working closely with actress Marion Cotillard, who played the lead in the movie.

Raised in the south of France, Aigrot began studying voice at an early age. As a musical theater performer she was interested in light opera, and specialized in the art of the French song. She then began appearing in many French television programs, including the role of a singer in an episode of Remington Steele with Pierce Brosnan. Additional roles as an actress and singer ensued for her- including a special tribute to Jacques Brel staged by the city of Cannes.
