Spreckels Performing Arts Center presents I AM MY OWN WIFE, starring Steven Abbott. Written by Doug Wright and directed by Jennifer King. The production plays from April 29 to May 16, 2010.

Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, I Am My Own Wife is based on a true story and inspired by interviews collected by the playwright. This remarkable and poignant drama is about Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime. Steven Abbott recreates his riveting, critically acclaimed performance first seen in 2006 at Sonoma County Repertory Theater and Jennifer King returns to direct.
